Setting a Div's height to cover the entire screen in React
To set the height of a Div in React to cover the entire screen, set its height to 100vh
, for example <div style={{height: '100vh'}}>...</div>
. When the element's height is set to 100vh, it covers 100% of the viewport height.
const App = () => {
return (
<div style={{height: '100vh'}}>
<h2>hello world</h2>
</div>
);
};
export default App;
div
We set the height of the to be 100% of the viewport height using the vh unit .
If we need to set the height of the root in our React application div
, we can do it in the App.css file or in the index.css .
#root {
height: 100vh;
}
Here is how you import the App.css file to make the styles take effect.
// 👇️ import your css file
import './App.css';
const App = () => {
return (
<div>
<h2>hello world</h2>
</div>
);
};
export default App;
The examples above assume that the root div element in the public/index.html file has an id of root.
We should make sure that the roots are positioned correctly div
.
When importing global CSS files in React, the best practice is to import the CSS file into
index.js
a .js file.
The index.js file is the entry point of your React application, so it will always run.
On the other hand, if we import a CSS file into a component, the CSS styles may be removed once our component unmounts.
