Resolving NPM command not found errors in Bash
Node Package Manager or npm
is a package manager for JavaScript programming language. It is the default package manager for the Node.js runtime environment.
When you use npm
the bash tool to download packages, you may sometimes receive command not found
an error. This article explains how to install bash in Bash npm
and resolve this error.

You are getting npm: command not found
the error because nodejs
and npm
are not properly installed on your system. The rest of this article will explain the different ways to download these tools.
nodejs
and npm
can be installed on Linux distributions using the following commands.

Install and for Arch Linux npm

sudo pacman -S nodejs npm

Install and for Ubuntu and Debian npm
.
sudo apt-get install nodejs npm
nodejs
Install and for CentOS and Fedora npm
.
sudo dnf install npm
Apart from this, npm
tools and nodejs
can be installed manually.
Download the file from https://nodejs.org/en/ tar
and unzip it.
curl https://nodejs.org/dist/v17.6.0/node-v17.6.0-linux-x64.tar.xz -o node-v17.6.0-linux-x64.tar.xz
tar -xvf node-v17.6.0-linux-x64.tar.xz
/usr/local/
Create a directory under .
sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/nodejs
/usr/local/nodejs/
Move the node file under .
sudo mv node-v17.6.0-linux-x64/* /usr/local/nodejs/
Add /usr/local/nodejs/bin
the directory to .bashrc
the file PATH
.
sudo nano ~/.bashrc
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/nodejs/bin
Reload .bashrc
the file.
source ~/.bashrc
Install npm
.
curl -L https://npmjs.org/install.sh | sudo sh
You can successfully install the tool by selecting the tool that best suits you from these options npm
. To check the installation, check the version of the tool.
node --version
npm --version
Now you can npm install package
download the required packages using the command. After completing these operations, if you still get errors in your development environment, close the application and open it again.
