React error Uncaught ReferenceError: process is not defined solution

Author:JIYIK Last Updated:2025/03/15 Views:

To resolve the “Uncaught ReferenceError: process is not defined” error in React, open a terminal in the root directory of your project and npm install react-scripts@latestupdate react-scriptsyour package versions by running and reinstall dependencies if necessary.

Open a terminal in your project's root directory (where your package.json file is located) and run the following command.

#  使用 NPM
npm install react-scripts@latest

# --------------------------------------------

# 使用 YARN
yarn add react-scripts@latest

The error is react-error-overlaycaused by the package which has a dependency that has been updated to support webpack v5 and is incompatible with react-scripts v4.

If the error is not resolved, try installing version 6.0.9 of react-error-overlaythe package.

# 使用 NPM
npm install --save-dev react-error-overlay@6.0.9

# --------------------------------------------

# 使用 YARN
yarn add react-error-overlay@6.0.9 --dev

We added version 6.0.9 of the react-error-overlay package as a development dependency.

Now, open the package.json file and add the following solution object.

{
  "resolutions": {
    "//": "查看 https://github.com/facebook/create-react-app/issues/11773",
    "react-error-overlay": "6.0.9"
  }
}

If the error is not resolved, try deleting the node_modules and package-lock.json (or yarn.lock) files, re-running npm installand restarting the IDE.

# 删除 node_modules 和 package-lock.json
rm -rf node_modules
rm -f package-lock.json
rm -f yarn.lock

# 清除 npm 缓存
npm cache clean --force

npm install

Yarn will automatically resolve react-error-overlay to version 6.0.9.

However, if using npm and the error persists, add the following pre-install script to our package.json file.

{
  "scripts":{
      "preinstall": "npx npm-force-resolutions",
  }
}

The npm-force-resolutions package modifies your package-lock.json file to force installation of specific versions of transitive dependencies.

In our case, we want to make sure we are installing version 6.0.9 of the react-error-overlay package.
