Click to scroll to an element in React:

  1. Set the property on the element you want to scroll to ref.
  2. Sets a property on another element onClick.
  3. Each time the element is clicked, scrollIntoView()the method of the ref object is called.
import {useRef} from 'react';

export default function App() {
  const ref = useRef(null);

  const handleClick = () => {
    ref.current?.scrollIntoView({behavior: 'smooth'});
  };

  return (
    <div>
      <button onClick={handleClick}>Scroll to element</button>

      <div style={{height: '155rem'}} />

      <div ref={ref}>Some content here</div>

      <div style={{height: '155rem'}} />
    </div>
  );
}

react scroll to element on click

We useRefinitialize a ref using the hook.

useRef()The hook can be passed an initial value as an argument. The hook returns a mutable ref object whose .current property is initialized to the passed argument.

请注意, we must access the current property of the ref object to access the div element on which we set the ref attribute.

When we pass a ref prop to an element, for example <div ref={myRef} />, React sets the .current property of the ref object to the corresponding DOM node.

We set the onClick attribute on the button element, so every time it is clicked handleClickthe function will be called.

const handleClick = () => {
  ref.current?.scrollIntoView({behavior: 'smooth'});
};

In handleClickthe function, we use scrollIntoViewthe method to scroll to the div element that has the ref attribute set.

behaviorProperty specifies whether scrolling should be smooth ( smooth) or immediate ( auto).

behaviorThe default value of the property is auto.

Each time the button is clicked, the method is called on the element we set the ref attribute to scrollIntoView(), and that element becomes visible to the user.
