Assuming we have set up our username and email, how can we check them? To view the username, run git configthe command, which will output the configured username.

Order:

$ git config user.name

To check email, run the following command.

Order:

$ git config user.email

Let's look at the following example. We will run the above command to check the credentials configured in the Git repository.

The following commands will allow us to configure or change the existing username and email in Git.

Configure the user name.

Order:

$ git config --global user.name "Your Name"

Configure email.

Order:

$ git config --global user.email "Email"

Let’s take another example, we will try to change the username and email shown in the image above. The following command should change our details.

Order:

$ git config --global user.name "John. W"
$ git config --global user.email "wachirajohnie11@gmail.com"
