We use Git in a collaborative development environment to track changes made to files in project directories.
We usually set up a local branch in the local repository to track the remote branch on the remote repository. Sometimes, we may want to track changes to a specific remote branch that exists in the remote repository.
Suppose we have a local branch mainset up in our development environment to track maina remote branch with the same name.
We want to track remote branches that exist in remote repositories todo-feature.
We can use git pullthe command to achieve this. git pullThe syntax of the command is as follows.
git pull [<options>] [<repository> [<refspec>…]]
So, we need to execute the following command to pull from a specific remote branch todo-feature.
$ cd MyProject
$ git checkout -b todo-feature
$ git pull origin todo-feature
We can see above that we have moved into our project directory. We then created and checked out a branch using the -f branch command with the -g -boption .git checkouttodo-feature
We have executed the command using the remote originand the remote branch . The command fetches the remote branch and merges it with our local branch.todo-featuregit pullgit pulltodo-feature
Now we have successfully pulled from a specific remote branch in Git. Please note that before executing git pull, we need to make sure the remote branch todo-featureexists in the remote repository.
