Fix git pull not pulling all content
The most common situation is when a pull request does not reflect the latest commits from the remote repository. For a simpler context, let's assume we are working on a project that has a master branch in the remote repository.
When we run git pull, the latest commit in the remote repository does not match the commit in the local repository after the pull. What should we do?
At this point, you want to avoid calling the merge function. It is better to use git fetchthe command.
We can use git fetchreset our files to a specific commit. Here are the steps to fix that.
First, we'll fetch from the master branch, which contains the commits we need.
$ git fetch origin master
The git fetch command is a less aggressive way to update HEAD . Now, we can use git resetthe git pull command to set up our files as they were in the last commit on HEAD .
$ git reset --hard FETCH_HEAD
The above method works for other branches as well. You can replace master with any branch in your remote repository.
$ git fetch origin <branchname>
